ADA, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team (3-6, 2-0 OAC) hit the road on Friday evening, playing against Ohio Northern (6-4, 1-1 OAC). It would be a defensive battle between the Comets and the Polar Bears, with the Purple and White taking a late lead in the fourth quarter, eventually outlasting ONU, 8-6.
HOW IT HAPPENED
It was a quiet first half for Capital as both teams struggled to score. The Comets were held to just one goal in the first quarter, and were scoreless in the second quarter. On the other hand, Ohio Northern netted once in the first and twice in the second to take a 3-1 lead into the break.
Mason Spaulding was responsible for CU's solo first half goal.
Cap put together a quick comeback to start the third quarter as
Drew Bolen and Spaulding doubled-up to tie the game at 3-3 within the first 1:20. Spaulding added another in response to ONU's only goal of the quarter a few minutes later, making it a 4-4 ballgame heading into the final 15 minutes.
Capital's run would continue into the fourth quarter as the Comets started out the fourth quarter with four straight scores, making it a 5-0 run overall. Poole put the first one in with Spaulding taking care of the rest, taking the lead to 8-4. Ohio Northern netted another two after that but it was too-little-too-late as the Purple and White would walk away with the 8-6 win.
