COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team fell in 11 innings by a final score of 19-12 to visiting Oberlin College despite carrying an 11-5 lead to the ninth.
With the loss, Capital slips to 6-10 while Oberlin improves to 7-6. The Comets will begin their conference schedule this coming Saturday with a home twinbill vs. Heidelberg.
The Comets got on the board early thanks to a bases-clearing three-run double from
Ben Stevens in the first. That lead carried to the third when Oberlin answered back with two of their own.
In the fifth, a trio of Comet runs put Capital back in front, 6-3. Two in the sixth from Oberlin made things interesting at 6-5, Cap. However the Comets struck for two in the bottom half of the sixth to go ahead.
Connor Feeney's RBI triple highlighted the frame.
In the eighth inning, Cap tacked on three more runs, as they capitalized on some Oberlin miscues after a pair of RBI singles from Feeney and
Robby Harrison.
In the top of the ninth, Cap looked to close it out, but Oberlin struck for seven runs to go in front 12-11.
An RBI double from Feeney in the bottom of the ninth tied the game at 12 and extended the game into the 11th inning where Oberlin put up another seven runs to close it out.
