Men’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Rhodes

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Capital University men's lacrosse team (1-3, 0-0 OAC) took another trip to Tennessee on Saturday, traveling to Rhodes (3-2, 0-0 SAA) for a tight high-scoring contest with the Comets ending up on the wrong side of the scoreboard, 19-14.

Gino Nave, Aaron Waltman, and Mason Spaulding got CU started with three goals in the first quarter but Purple and White would ultimately be outscored 6-3 before the break. The hole got deeper in the second quarter as Capital managed only one goal compared to five from the other side, leaving the Comets with an 11-4 deficit at the half. Spaulding would be the one to score.

The third quarter was closer but still ended with Rhodes adding one to their advantage with five scores to Cap's four. Spaulding put in another, joined by Jacob Poole, Anthony Carusone, and Charlie Howenstine. The final 15 minutes saw CU outscore the hosts 6-3 but it was too little too late, leaving the final margin at 19-14. Spaulding scored three with Jake Belt, Poole, and Austin Yanichko getting the other half.
