DANVILLE, Ky. – The Capital University baseball team got a couple of early runs but could not keep it going as they fell 13-3 in seven innings to DePauw University on Saturday afternoon.
The game was DePauw's opening game and moved them to 1-0, while Capital slipped to 0-2 on the year.
Capital mustered three hits on the day – one each from
Connor Feeney,
Ben Stevens and
Michael Andryszczyk. Feeney recorded the only RBI of the day for Cap.
Capital did have some other base runners as the team drew seven walks – two from
Cade Anderson and one each from
Ryan Brophy,
Arnulfo Gonzalez, Feeney, Andryszczyk, and
Robby Harrison.
On the mound,
Trevor Woodyard was hit with the loss as he threw the first 2.1 innings, surrendering eight hits and a pair of walks while striking out three.
Freshman
Brian Young ate up 3.2 innings of relief, allowing just five hits and four runs (two earned). He recorded his first collegiate strikeout in the effort.
Daniel Collier pitched the final frame, allowing two runs.
