COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball teams started in a hole against visiting Ohio Wesleyan University on Tuesday night and could not recover in an eventual 84-76 loss. The Comets struggled offensively early, going scoreless for the first 6:21 of the game while OWU jumped out to a 13-0 lead, ultimately settling the end result at the final horn.
With the result, both teams are now 3-2 on the season.
The story of the game proved to be hot shooting by the visitors and a strong inside-out game by the hosts after finally breaking the ice a third of the way through the first half. The Bishops shot 50% from the floor and 42.9% from beyond the arc, led by Jessee Battle's 9-for-10 from the floor and 7-of-8 from deep. On the other hand, Capital shot 41.8% overall and 31.8% from range, most of which came after the scoreless drought was snapped.
In the end, Capital was led by
Justin Nixon who finished with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-17 shooting, including a perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line. He added seven rebounds, three assists and a steal to his outing.
Alex Eyink chipped in 12 points as well to go with three boards, four assists and a steal.
Daryl Cooper also reached double-digits with 11 points off the bench. He added three rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
McKane Finkenbine dished out a team-best five assists in the effort. Capital had 18 dimes as a team.
