ADRIAN, Mich. – The Capital University men's basketball team traveled north to Michigan to do battle with the Adrian College Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon. There, the Comets shook off the midweek loss at Denison by defeating Adrian 63-61.
The win propels Cap to 3-1 on the year, while Adrian falls to 1-3.
Capital found themselves trailing 58-55 with 5:51 left in the game, but did not settle there. With the score still within reach and plenty of time to get back into it, Capital saw
Alex Eyink,
McKane Finkenbine and
Justin Nixon each split a set of free throws, allowing Capital to trim it 61-58 after AC's Braylon Dickerson drilled a 3-pointer with 4:20 remaining in the game.
While playing good defense and holding the Bulldogs scoreless, Capital cut back into the lead, thanks to
Alex Eyink's good layup with 2:51 left. With the momentum and trailing by just one point, Capital went back in front by the eventual final score with 1:21 left thanks to
McKane Finkenbine's good triple. From there, neither team would score and the Comets would escape the venue with the narrow victory.
