Volleyball Falls in Road Match at Heidelberg

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team ventured to Heidelberg University on Wednesday evening where they fell by a 3-0 scoreline. The sets went the way of the Student Princes via 25-19, 25-21 and 25-23 scores.

Overall, Capital is now 9-10 and 1-1 in the OAC, while Heidelberg improves to 11-8 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

After falling behind 2-0 in sets, the Comets put together their best set in the third frame, converting a .290 hitting percentage, while also adding in a trio of solo blocks – two from Larissa Smith and one from Chloe Preocanin to spur on the team. Unfortunately for the Comets, a 17-12 lead quickly turned into a 20-20 tied score as Heidelberg went on an 8-3 run to flip the momentum. Another two points for the Student Princes saw them in front by two, forcing Cap to do anything they could to stay in it. A pair of kills from Samaree Perkins and one from Simone Daniel kept the Purple and White right there, but unfortunately, the hosts hung on for the 25-23 set win and the 3-0 match win.

Offensively, Capital scored 29 kills, led by Samaree Perkins with eight. She was followed closely by Larissa Smith with seven and Sophia Sobota and Simone Daniel with six each.

Bryn Whitmer set up the offense, dishing out 26 assists in the match.

At the net, Smith was the top defender, finishing with four blocks – two solo and two assists. Daniel added two of her own, while Sobota, and Preocanin were also in on blocks.

In the back row, Abby Brunner led Capital with 14 digs, followed closely by Olivia Spillers with 11.

At the service line, Brunner landed a team-best three aces, while Whitmer dropped in two aces.
