COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team took on John Carroll on Friday night, falling by a 3-0 scoreline. The sets went the way of JCU 25-21, 25-21 and 25-15.
Overall, Capital is now 9-11 and 1-2 in the OAC, while John Carroll improves to 13-5 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
The Comets held their own in the first two sets but would ultimately fall a few points short at the end of each. In the third set, the Blue Streaks showed their strength and would run away with the game.
Offensively, Capital came up with 35 kills, led by
Samaree Perkins with nine. She was followed closely by
Larissa Smith with eight and
Sophia Sobota with seven.
Bryn Whitmer set up the offense, dishing out 26 assists in the match.
Kenadee Winters also collected four and
Olivia Spillers saw two.
At the net, Perkins, Sobota, Smith, and
Simone Daniel were the top defenders, finishing with a block a piece.
In the back row,
Abby Brunner led Capital with 12 digs, followed closely by Whitmer with 9 and Winters with eight.
At the service line, Whimter made for a team-best two aces, while Sobota and Daniel each dropped in one.

Capital now gets an extra day to prepare for their next match at home on Wednesday against Marietta at 7:00 p.m. That match will serve as the Comets' dig pink game this season raising funds and awareness for Breast Cancer research benefiting the American Cancer Society. Capital Athletics will offer complimentary admission to the game in lieu of a $10 donation per person to the American Cancer Society's fight against Breast Cancer. Other raffles and donation opportunities will be available all supporting the cause as well.
