Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women’s Soccer Falls on Senior Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team (3-7-2, 1-1-1 OAC) hosted senior day on Saturday as they took on John Carroll (7-5-0, 3-0-0 OAC). In the end, it would be the Blue Streaks taking the win after holding the Comets scoreless and splitting two goals of their own between the halves, 2-0.

SENIOR DAY
Prior to kickoff, the program recognized seniors Abby English, Shelby Jackson, Nicole Ogden, Rachel Austin, Francesca Longano, Catherine Zugaro and Grace Estes for four years worth of solid contributions to the team.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Despite starting the game on the front foot, Capital found themselves trailing 1-0 in the 33rd minute as JCU's Madyson Rosado glided through the heart of the Comet defense before slotting a shot past Liv Alford in goal.

The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Blue Streaks until the 50th minute when Rosado scored a similar style goal, this time off a feed from Meredith Coloian, making the score 2-0.

Cap looked for a quick response as the front three of Grace Estes, Rachel Austin and Avery Hart combined for a good opportunity that saw Hart's cross-goal shot drift just wide of the far post.

Again, the Comets got another good look at goal soon after as Taylor Marcum got behind the defense. With a good shot attempt, the JCU goalie came up with a sharp save and smothered the rebound before an on-rushing Maggie McGlone could shove another attempt on goal.

As the game continued on, Capital created additional chances with Catherine Zugaro forcing another great save out of the JCU goalie and three penalty kick shouts falling on deaf ears.

All said and done, Capital slung 20 shots toward the goal, forcing seven saves out of the JCU goalie. Liv Alford made three saves for Capital on the 14 shots she faced.

UP NEXT
Capital will remain home at Bernlohr Stadium for their next game, hosting Marietta College on Wednesday, October 16th at 7 p.m.
