Comets Shoot Well in Back and Forth Victory against Wilmington

Columbus, Ohio -- Capital University Men's basketball pulls out a 70-65 win in a grueling back and forth battle against the Wilmington Quakers. The Comets shot an incredibly high clip from three, shooting a staggering 42.9% from behind the arc. This three-point masterclass was well supported by an impressive 45.6% from the field.

The conference win for the Comets moves them to 5-6 in the conference, and advances them to 11-7 on the year. After the loss, the Wilmington Quakers now have a record of 4-7 in the OAC, and 8-10 overall.

The Quakers won the tip, and came out of the gate with insane energy, stringing together multiple stops and getting a few tough buckets. Wilmington's scrappy style of play initially gave the Comets some trouble, but once Capital settled in and found their rhythm they were hard to stop. The Comets were running hard in transition, showcasing their floor vision and hustle allowing for some easy buckets at the rim. Capital's first half effort was led by a combination of Justin Nixon in the paint, and Carter Combs on the perimeter, who had 10 and 8 respectively. This alongside some work on the boards from Baden Forup allowed the Comets to go into the half up 39-29.

Similarly to the first half, Wilmington started off strong with a lot of hustle plays leading to buckets. Their effort combined with a shooting slump from Capital enabled them to tie the game with 10:31 left in the second half. Neither team could gain an inch until back to back Comet three-pointers from McKane Finkenbine and Dom Moegerle gave Capital the lead back. Despite an energetic and hard-fought effort from the Quakers, Capital was able to fend them off and keep this lead for the remainder of the contest, winning 70-65.
