Men’s Basketball Rallies For Road Win at BW

BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team scored the final four points of the game to seal an 84-81 win on the road at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 81-80 with 36 seconds left, Deon Miller converted two free throws before McKane Finkenbine scored the clinching layup with just six seconds left in the game to seal the win.

Capital now moves to 12-7 overall and an even 6-6 in the league, while BW drops to 5-14 overall and 2-10 in the OAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets came out of the gates firing on all cylinders as they shot 75% over their first 12 shot attempts, going out to a nine point lead after the first five minutes had passed.

From there, the Comets settled into the game and let the pesky Yellow Jackets hang around for the remainder of the first half, eventually carrying just a 42-39 lead into the break.

In the second half, Capital initially fell behind as BW came out the aggressor, but the team kept their composure and closed a five-point deficit thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from McKane Finkenbine with just under eight minutes remaining.

When the momentum looked to have swung back to Capital, BW responded by going back in front by seven points with 2:32 left in the game. Six straight free throws and a layup by Alex Eyink allowed Capital to close the gap and set up the come-from-behind victory late on.

THE NUMBERS
Dom Moegerle led the Comets with a season-high 17 points. He added two rebounds, three assists and four steals to go with his quality afternoon.

Both McKane Finkenbine and Baden Forup ended their days with 14 points. Finkenbine also contributed two rebounds and three assists, while Forup chipped in four rebounds and a steal.

Deon Miller and Nate Gerber each hit double-digits off the bench with Miller finishing with 11 points and Gerber with 10. The duo also combined for 10 rebounds.

Carter Combs scored just seven points but he dished out a career-high 10 assists in the game. He also swiped two steals.

As a team, Capital shot a strong 53% from the floor and a solid 39% from 3-point range.
