Men’s Basketball Slips Up Late in Loss to Heidelberg

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team hosted Heidelberg on Wednesday night for a midweek OAC matchup. The Student Princes used a quick start to the second half and benefitted from a couple of calls late in the game to pull off a 75-69 win over the Comets.

Capital moves to 9-5 with the loss and 3-4 within the conference. Heidelberg improves to 10-4 overall and 6-1 in the OAC.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital ran away from the Student Princes toward the end of the first half as a boost of energy from freshman Daryl Cooper helped spark the Comets to a 13 point lead at the halftime interval. At the 9:05 mark of the first half, Cap garnered their first double-digit lead of the game, as Justin Nixon finished a put-back layup to put Cap ahead by 11. From there, Capital would lead by as many as 16 points before the half.

Across the first 20 minutes of play, Capital knocked down 42% of their shots to The Berg's 28% allowing the game to open up a bit.

In the second half, the Student Princes came out of the gates firing on all cylinders and closed the game to a tied ball game after just 4:40 of action. From there, the game stayed relatively close the remainder of the game as both teams scrapped to find the edge. Ultimately, a four-point play by Heidelberg and composure at the free throw line from the visitors proved to be decisive as the final horn rang with Heidelberg ahead 75-69.
