WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team (6-11, 0-1 OAC) traveled to the north side of the city on Friday night to compete for the coveted oar with Otterbein (10-7, 2-0 OAC) in the Battle for the Oar presented by Byers Airport Subaru. Unfortunately for the Comets, the oar stays in Otterbein's possession for now, with the Cardinals winning 3-0 (15-25, 15-25, 19-25).
Larissa Smith led the Capital attacking corps with eight kills and hitting .400. Also on the offensive were
Alissa Holler and
Simone Daniel, each with seven kills.
Bryn Whitmer collected 18 assists along with tying for the team-lead in digs with five. Four Comets in total laid claim to that title, the other three being
Michaela Recker,
Olivia Spillers, and
Abby Brunner.
Capital recorded four service aces as well as four blocks. Daniel accounted for two of each. She was on the service side by Recker and Brunner, and by
Samaree Perkins (2) and Holler on the defensive front.

The Comets will look to bounce back in their second round of OAC play against Wilmington on October 4th. That will be Capital's first home conference contest of the season, taking place at The Capital Center at 7 p.m.
