Volleyball’s Late Surge Not Enough at Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team tried a late surge in the fourth set to force a fifth, but eventually ran out of steam as they fell to Denison University 3-1 on Wednesday evening. 

The Comets, now 6-10 overall, took the opening set 25-20 before dropping the next three in order, 23-25, 10-25, 26-28. 

Lindsay Rich and Larissa Smith led the offense in this one, both landing 10 kills on strong hitting percentages. Rich hit a .296 clip, while Smith attacked at a staggering .409 percentage. 

Samaree Perkins and Alissa Holler each added five kills a piece to support the offense. 

Facilitating play was once again Bryn Whitmer who set up 20 assists on the night. She was joined by Kenadee Winters with six and Abby Brunner with five helpers. 

Brunner led the defense with 17 digs on the night. Winters chipped in with seven scoops, while Whitmer added six and Michaela Recker had five.

At the service line, Capital landed 11 aces from four different players. Bryn Whitmer led with five, followed closely by Olivia Spillers who hit four. Abby Brunner and Michaela Recker each had one as well. 
In blocking, Larissa Smith and Samaree Perkins each had two to lead the way. 

UP NEXT
The Comets now conclude their non-conference schedule and will focus on OAC play the remainder of the season. First, Capital will travel to Otterbein for the annual Battle for the Oar presented by Byers Airport Subaru on Friday, September 29th. First serve in Westerville is slated for 6 p.m.
