DECATUR, Ill. – The Capital University volleyball team split their two games on the second day of the Millikin Tournament, losing to the hosts 3-0 before defeating Knox 3-1.
The Comets' record now sits at 6-9 with one more non-conference match left to play this season.
GAME ONE: Millikin def. Capital, 3-0
Capital was upended in game one of the day by the hosts Millikin University, 3-0 via set scores of 25-15, 25-21 and 25-12.
Millikin jumped all over the Comets, hitting a blistering .367 rate, landing 42 kills on 90 swings with just nine errors in the match. On the other hand, Capital managed just 20 kills on 84 tries.
Statistically,
Lindsay Rich led the offense with six kills and she was followed by
Larissa Smith and
Ryann Bunyak who each hit down four.
Kenadee Winters and
Bryn Whitmer shared the setting responsibilities, each dishing up eight assists.
On the service line,
Michaela Recker had two aces. She was joined by Smith and
Abby Brunner with one ace each.
Brunner also led the back row with 16 digs.
GAME TWO: Capital def. Knox 3-1
The Comets got back in the win column, taking down Knox 3-1 in the second match of the day. The Comets set scoreline read 25-15, 19-25, 25-16 and 25-13.
All-in-all Capital attacked very well, landing 54 kills in the match. Both
Lindsay Rich and
Alissa Holler ended with 10 kills a piece. They were followed closely by
Larissa Smith (9) and
Ryann Bunyak (7).
Cap continued to use both
Bryn Whitmer and
Kenadee Winters in the facilitation on the offense. Whitmer ended with 21 assists and Winters set up 13 assists.
Abby Brunner led the defense with 23 digs and was joined in double-digits by
Michaela Recker (13) and
Olivia Spillers (10).
At the net,
Samaree Perkins was responsible for three solo blocks while
Larissa Smith and
Alissa Holler were also in on three swats.
Capital sent a dozen aces over the net, thanks to four each from Recker and Whitmer. Spillers added two, while Brunner and Winters accounted for one each.
UP NEXT
Capital will remain on the road for their next two matches, going to Denison on Wednesday before traveling across town to Otterbein on Friday. Both matches are scheduled for 7 p.m.
