DECATUR, Ill. – Capital University volleyball traveled to Millikin University to take part in their weekend tournament. In the first of three matches this weekend, Capital sparred with Fontbonne University and fell 3-1.
Like has been the case a couple of times this season, Capital came out and won the opening set, but could not continue to the good start, dropping the next three in order. Capital now rests with a 5-8 record. Fontbonne moves to 3-3 overall.
Offensive efficiency proved to tell the story as the Griffins out-hit Capital .227 to .086 in the match. Cap landed just 35 kills on 151 attacks while committing 22 errors. Fontbonne slammed home 53 kills and 18 errors on 154 tries.
THE NUMBERS
Simone Daniel hit a career-best 13 kills. She added two aces, two digs and two block assists.
Other leaders on the offensive end were
Larissa Smith who hit seven kills without an error for a strong .583 percentage and
Lindsay Rich who landed nine kills.
Bryn Whitmer went all the way around as the setter, dishing out 30 assists. She also tallied nine digs and an ace.
In the back row,
Abby Brunner scooped up a game-high 17 digs. She added two assists.
Defensively up front,
Samaree Perkins was the lead blocker, tallying a solo block and two block assists. Smith, Daniel, and Rich were also a part of two block assists each.
UP NEXT
Capital will stay overnight in Decatur before playing both Millikin and Knox tomorrow. The first match will take place at 11 a.m. followed by a 1 p.m. first serve in the second match.
