Volleyball’s Hot Start Simmers Out at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team traveled to Oberlin College this evening for their fourth road game in a row. There, the Comets came out firing on all cylinders, winning the first set, but that momentum fizzled out and the Yeowomen took the next three, winning 3-1. 

Capital slips to 5-7 while Oberlin moves to 8-1. 

The first set went the way of the Comets 25-22, before the next three went the way of Oberlin via scores of 25-10, 25-12, and 25-21. 

The Comet offense struggled to find a groove offensively, scoring just 68 points compared the Yeowomen's 97 points. Additionally, Capital out-attacked Oberlin 114-112, but only managed a .123 hitting percentage compared to Oberlin's .286. 

THE NUMBERS
Lindsay Rich led the offense with 11 kills – her fourth straight match with double-digit kills. Alissa Holler contributed nine kills, while Simone Daniel landed six and Larissa Smith hit five. Samaree Perkins also had four. 

Bryn Whitmer guided the offense with 26 assists. She added two kills and an ace. 

In the dig category, Abby Brunner picked up 15 digs, while Whitmer added six and Michaela Recker had five. 

Joining Whitmer with an ace were Brunner, Recker and Olivia Spillers

Larissa Smith was in on 3.5 blocks with two coming alone. Simone Daniel was in on four assists and Samaree Perkins accounted for the other 1.5 blocks for Cap. 

UP NEXT
Capital will stay on the road as they travel to Millikin University in Decatur, Illinois this weekend for three matches. The Comets will play Fontbonne, Millikin and Knox over the weekend.
