Women’s Soccer Hands Kenyon First Loss of the Season

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team handed previously undefeated Kenyon College their first loss of the season tonight, thanks to a 3-1 scoreline at Bernlohr Stadium.

Capital moves forward to 4-2-1 overall on the year, while Kenyon falls to 3-1-3.

After staving off Kenyon pressure for much of the first half, the Comets got two goals in the final five minutes of the game from Grace Estes and Lexi Snider

First in the 41st minute, Estes received a ball over the top from Tori Kittrell and at the top of the box, Estes jumped and volleyed the ball up and over the Kenyon goalie into the top right corner making it 1-0.

Then, nearly two minutes later, Snider received a pass from Nicole Ogden and after a few dribbles chipped a left footed shot to the back post side netting to double the Comet lead.

After halftime, the Owls pushed to find a way back into the game and netted a goal from Hailey Moss in the 59th minute off a rebound from a Sadie Gould shot.

Despite seeing their lead cut in half, the Comets remained in control and eventually re-established their two goal advantage in the 70th minute. Taylor Marcum swung in a free kick that caught the head of Sophia Leonetti. Leonetti's header nestled in the back of the net, marking her fourth goal of the year, and third headed goal of the year.

That score would hold for the remaining 20 minutes as Cap would win their second straight at home.

Liv Alford – who was just named the OAC's Defensive Player of the Week after making a career-high seven saves vs No. 3 Christopher Newport – upped her career-best again with nine saves this evening.
