Volleyball Comes Up Empty at DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Capital University volleyball program hit the road for DePauw University where they played the first of nine straight road matches. There, the Comets came up empty, falling 3-0 to the host Tigers. 

Capital, who now rests with a 3-6 record overall, dropped the sets in order 25-15, 25-17, 25-23. DePauw advanced to 5-3 with the win. 

The Comets hit at a decent clip of .170 in the match, highlighted by a brilliant .355 in the third set, but the difference in the match came down to the total number of opportunities. The Comets landed just 29 kills on 88 attempts to DePauw's 37 kills on 102 swings. Both teams finished with 14 errors a piece. 

The Comets were led by Lindsay Rich in the offensive game as the senior landed 10 kills on 22 attempts for a .364 clip. She added a block and three digs. 

Larissa Smith also slashed a .364 percentage, landing six kills on 11 tries. She added two blocks and a dig. 

Simone Daniel hit down four kills and added an assist, an ace, three blocks and three digs. 

Bryn Whitmer landed a career-best four kills and set up 16 assists. Kenadee Winters set up five assists. 

Abby Brunner had a team-high 11 digs, while Michaela Recker added seven scoops.

Capital will travel to Bluffton's Sommer Center Spiketacular this Friday, playing the University of Olivet and the hosts Bluffton.
