Baseball Drops a Pair in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team ventured to Wilmington College on Wednesday, April 19th and fell in both games via scores of 12-6 and 12-2.

The results set Capital back to 6-22 overall and 0-12 in the conference. Wilmington now sits at 13-18 (3-9 OAC).

The highlight of game one for the Comets was EJ Santana's second inning three-run home run that also scored Ryne McKinney and Tristan Burns

Other scoring plays were scattered throughout the game with Kielan LaMarr singling home McKinney in the fourth. In the top of the sixth, Connor Feeney scored on a wild pitch and was followed by Logan White's RBI groundout that scored LaMarr.

Logan White, EJ Santana and Kielan LaMarr accounted for two hits each, while Tristan Burns and Connor Feeney had the other hits.

On the mound, Curtis Clark started the game, but an unfortunate comeback liner on the first batter of the game forced him to an early exit. He was followed by Kyle Bowles (3.2 IP, 9 H, 7 R, 1 BB, 2 K), Casey Wilkins (2 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K), Brennon Newell (1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 1 BB) and Adam Frump (1 IP).

In the second game, Capital got scoring plays by Ben Stevens in the top of the fifth and Josh Sagredo in the top of the eighth. Stevens hit a sac fly that scored Ryne McKinney and Sagredo singled home Stevens.

McKinney had the only multi-hit game for the Comets and was joined in the hit column by Ty Clifton, Logan White, EJ Santana, Justin Witherspoon, Stevens and Sagredo.

On the mound, Tyler Sickles started the game and threw three innings (4 H, 3 R, 3 BB, 3 K). He was followed by Garrett Montgomery (2 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 1 BB), Spencer Knight (1 IP), Adam Frump (1 IP, 1 R, 1 K), and Aaron Olech (1 IP, 2 H, 3 R).
