Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Swept by Wooster

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team put together a solid outing at the plate across two games with The College of Wooster on Thursday afternoon, but ultimately fell in both games via 12-6 and 9-5 scorelines.

The Comets even their record at 4-4 while Wooster moves ahead to 12-6.

GAME ONE: Wooster wins 12-6
Capital went ahead in the bottom of the first inning as Liz Stonerock doubled home Megan Mlinaric and Kyleigh Kirby. The lead would extend to 3-1 as Tiffany Zuelzke slapped a single to right that scored Autumn Bridges

After a Wooster run in the top of the third, Mlinaric helped Cap move ahead 5-3 with her second home run of the season – a two-run shot that also scored Kirby.

The final Comet run of the day came as Reagan Irons scored on a double play ball.

Unfortunately for Capital, Wooster scored two in the fifth, seven in the sixth and one in the seventh to flip the script and win the first half of the doubleheader 12-6.

Brianna Shearer started and surrendered nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits across 5.1 innings. Alyssa Zolman and Mlinaric combined for relief efforts and scattered eight hits and three runs in the final two frames.

GAME TWO: Wooster wins 9-5
The Comets again had their moments in the lead, but a seventh inning comeback did the job for the Scots who took the doubleheader sweep with the win.

Capital got runs on the board thanks to RBIs from Megan Mlinaric, Reagan Irons (2), Kyleigh Kirby and Liz Stonerock. Kirby's RBI came courtesy of her third home run of the year – a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Unfortunately for the Comets, Wooster played small ball and loaded the bases with a single, a bunt single, and a walk, eventually leading to a grand slam from Addie Tagg to seal the deal and give the Scots the win as Capital failed to plate a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Megan Mlinaric took the ball and pitched the first six innings scattering seven hits, four runs (one earned) and a walk around three strikeouts. Krislyn Bayles threw the seventh inning in relief and was ultimately hit with the loss.

NOTABLES
Three players are continuing to hit .500 or better this season in the form of Kyleigh Kirby (.545), Lexie Leggett (.542), and Megan Mlinaric (.500). Tiffany Zuelzke (.450) and Liz Stonerock (.444) are right there having solid seasons thus far at the plate.

Stonerock led the way with four hits today, while Leggett, Kirby, and Zuelzke collected three hits across the two games.
