Baseball Falls to Kenyon in Non-Conference Affair

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University baseball team took on Kenyon College on Wednesday evening, falling 15-10.

The Comets drop back to 4-10 overall and Kenyon improves to 12-5 on the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital opened the game up with the first four runs in the bottom of the first inning as EJ Santana hit a two-RBI double to right center, Connor Feeney hit an RBI single and Santana scored on a wild pitch to get the offense going early.

Unfortunately for Cap, the lead was wiped out in the top of the second inning as the Owls stuck back for four runs of their own to tie the game.

With the momentum on their side, Kenyon added two runs in the third and four more in the fourth to open up a 10-4 lead.

Capital got a run back in the bottom of the fourth inning as Tristan Burns hit into a double play that allowed Reagan Burch to score from third.

Kenyon tacked on what would eventually be the winning run in the top of the fifth before Capital would make their way back into the game.

The Comets scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a wild pitch, an RBI single from Tristan Burns and another RBI double from EJ Santana

In the eighth inning Capital chipped into the Owl lead a little bit more with an RBI single from both Justin Witherspoon and Christopher Rockwell. Unfortunately, Kenyon would put the game out of reach with three ninth inning runs to seal the deal.

Both teams threw a host of arms out of their bullpens as Kenyon tossed eight arms and Capital featured nine of their own.

Connor Jones started for Capital and was followed in relief by Ethan Pollack, Aaron Olech, Spencer Knight, Joey Womble, Adam Frump, Garrett Montgomery, Kaleb Stafford and Brennon Newell. Pollack was ultimately strapped with the loss, while the Comets staff combined for 14 strikeouts. Spencer Knight punched out four, while Olech (2), Womble (2), Montgomery (2), Jones, Pollack, Frump, and Newell struckout an opposing batter.

THE NUMBERS
Capital collected 16 hits and 10 runs in the game. Hunter Wilson led the team with four hits and a walk on six plate appearances. He scored three runs as well.

Reagan Burch, Tristan Burns and EJ Santana all collected two hits a piece, while Justin Witherspoon, Christopher Rockwell, Ryne McKinney, Connor Feeney, Kielan LaMarr, and Ben Stevens put the ball in play once each.

Santana led the RBI category with three runs batted in. He was joined in the category by Burns, Witherspoon, Rockwell, and Feeney.

UP NEXT
Capital will continue their stretch of non-conference play with a road game at Hiram College tomorrow, March 30th. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
