Baseball Drops First of Three Non-Conference Games This Week

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University hosted Hiram College on Monday afternoon for the first of what will be three non-conference games this week. Unfortunately for the Comets, they came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard as Hiram scored six runs across the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to take the game 7-2.

Capital drops back to 4-9 overall and Hiram improves to 8-6.

The Comets will travel to Hiram to play them on their home field this coming Thursday in a rematch of tonight's contest.

Capital was met with a stout pitching performance by Hiram's Stephen Javorek who threw a perfect first four innings. It wouldn't be until the fifth inning that Javorek would slip up where he walked Ryne McKinney and Robby Harrison in back-to-back at-bats. The first hit he would allow came to Kielan LaMarr who doubled to center field, scoring both McKinney and Harrison.

Unfortunately for Capital, Javorek would settle down and keep Cap off the board through the remainder of his outing. The Terrier's bullpen remained strong over two innings as well, keeping Cap scoreless.

Tyler Sickles got the start on the pitching mound for the Comets, throwing three innings and allowing just one unearned run. He scattered six hits and a walk in the trio of innings. He struckout two as well.

Brennon Newell ate up three innings of relief and allowed two runs (one earned), ultimately being strapped with the loss. Newell punched out three Terriers.

In further relief, Casey Wilkins, Spencer Knight, and Garrett Montgomery would finish off the game. Wilkins struckout two and Montgomery one in their outings.

At the dish, Kielan LaMarr led the team with two hits – a two-RBI double and a single. Ryne McKinney collected a hit and a walk. Tristan Burns doubled in the ninth inning in a pinch hit appearance.
