Baseball Struggles in OAC Opener

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University started their conference schedule on Sunday, traveling to Heidelberg to play two. Unfortunately for the Comets it was a slow afternoon at the bat rack as they could not keep up with the Student Princes, being defeated 17-3 in game one and 14-1 in game two. Capital is now 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the OAC.

Curtis Clark got the start on the mound in game one, going four innings and striking out three. He was followed by a slew of relievers. Capital got on the board early, scoring in the third inning via a productive groundout from Logan White that brought in Cade Anderson and tied the game at one. Heidelberg broke the tie with a steady stream of runs crossing the plate during the middle innings. Capital would add two more in the seventh and eighth on an Anderson sac fly that brought in Grayson Gulley, and another productive groundout, this time from EJ Santana that brought in Hunter Wilson. The game ended with a 17-3 scoreline.

Kyle Bowles was on the bump in game two, going four innings, and being followed by Ethan Pollack, Gavin Vanhorn, and Aaron Olech. Capital's lone run crossed the plate in the fifth inning in the form of a Ty Clifton home run to right field. The game ended 14-1 in favor of the hosts.

WHITE HITS 100
Logan White hit a career milestone with his 100th career hit in the top of the sixth inning of game one. The senior from Newark now sits at 101 total hits.

THE DAY'S NUMBERS
Ty Clifton clubbed a home run in game two, his only hit and RBI of the day.
