MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital men's basketball team suffered just their second loss of the season and first OAC loss on the road to Marietta College via a 93-72 scoreline.
The Comets now sit 7-2 overall and 1-1 in the conference while Marietta improved to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.
The Comets got yet another strong game out of freshman
Baden Forup who shot the ball extremely efficiently, converting eight of his 11 shots for a career-high matching 22 points. He also knocked down 6-of-8 free throws. In other areas of the floor Forup cleaned the glass with a team-best eight rebounds and he swatted away three Pioneer shots.
Behind Forup, the Comets did not shoot particularly well, as the rest of the team combined for just 20-of-49 from the floor. Of that total, the Comets shot just 6-of-22 from 3-point range.
Jumping in the scoring column were
McKane Finkenbine and
Justin Nixon who each put up eight points, while
Carter Combs,
Dom Moegerle and
Nate Gerber each scored six points.
Both Finkenbine and Combs ended with three assists to extend their tie at the top of the OAC in total assists. Both players now have 42 dimes on the year. Gerber also handed out three assists as well.
On the other end of the floor, the Pioneers splashed home 50% of their shots, which included a sharp 11-of-23 from beyond the arc. That difference proved to make up the point spread on the scoreboard at the end of the night.
