UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team traveled to University Heights today to do battle with the John Carroll Blue Streaks. There, the Comets fell 3-1 thanks to a 13-25, 25-21, 16-25, 21-25 scoreline.
The result moves Cap back to 6-17 overall and 0-7 in the conference, while JCU improves to 15-8 and 4-3 in the OAC.
The Comets did break a stretch of four straight matches without winning a set by claiming the second set of play. Capital played from in front for much of the set and got a solid run of three straight points on three consecutive kills to put some insurance distance between the two sides. Kills in the run came from
Larissa Smith,
Olivia Spillers and
Alissa Holler – all from sets by
Bryn Whitmer.
All-in-all, Capital was led by
Alissa Holler offensively. She landed 10 kills and was supported by
Samaree Perkins who hit a career-high nine kills. Falling in behind those two were
Simone Daniel (8 kills),
Larissa Smith (5 kills) and
Lindsay Rich (5 kills).
Whitmer dished out 32 assists in the match, while
Abby Brunner set up seven points for the Comets. Whitmer added 11 digs to her effort.
Brunner also led the way in digs with 25 – a game-high. She also had one ace.
Michaela Recker had 13 digs and two aces.
Perkins had a team-best three blocks, while Holler added two swats to lead that category.

Capital will return to the Capital Center for their final two matches of the season this week, first hosting Heidelberg on Wednesday, October 25th at 7 p.m. and then hosting Baldwin Wallace for a 1 p.m. senior day match-up on Saturday, October 28th.
