Women’s Soccer Ends in a 2-2 Tie With OAC Leaders John Carroll

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team welcomed the OAC-leading John Carroll Blue Streaks to Bernlohr Stadium on Saturday evening for Senior Day. The game lived up to the billing as both teams would score twice, ending in a 2-2 tie.

Capital moves to 9-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference, while JCU moves to 10-1-4 overall and 6-0-1 in the OAC.

Capital got on the board first, scoring the opening goal in the 22nd minute of play courtesy of a well-worked move by the Comet front line. Lizzie Elliott carried the ball up the right side and centered it for Catherine Zugaro who took a turning touch to face the goal. Zugaro then sent a brilliant ball through the defensive line to the on-rushing Lexi Snider who swept home the right-footed shot for her ninth goal of the season.

Despite tacking on 11 more shots in the half, including five more that found the frame, Capital carried just the one goal lead to the intermission.

Out of the break, Capital came out of the gates pushing to add to their lead. Eventually, the pressure paid off. After Grace Estes won a corner kick for the Comets, Tori Kittrell trotted up to serve the ball in. Her service eluded the charging JCU goalie and found the awaiting head of Sophia Leonetti who dispatched the header to the empty net for her seventh goal of the year.

JCU would get back into the game with a goal against the run of play in the 67th minute. Abby Smith would finish off a feed from Emma West to make the score 2-1 with 23 minutes left to play.

The new found momentum from the Blue Streaks resulted in a tied score just six minutes later as Madyson Rosado scored in the 72nd minute, knotting the score at two each.

Despite furious pressure by both teams over the course of the final 18 minutes, neither side would find a winner and the game would end in a 2-2 tie.

In all, the Comets slung 29 shots toward goal with 13 finding the target. The Blue Streaks ended with 19 shots with seven finding the frame.

Liv Alford ended with five saves for the Comets, while Madeline Martin Koiser finished with 10 saves for the Blue Streaks.
