MARIETTA, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team traveled to Marietta on Wednesday evening where they were upended 3-0. The Pioneers took the sets 25-19, 25-9, and 25-15.
Capital now sits at 6-16 overall and 0-6 in the conference. Marietta is 10-10 overall and 5-1 in the OAC.
Capital had a decent start in the first set, but ultimately were caught by the Pioneers who finished the set on a 12-3 run to claim the set lead with a 25-19 set score. With that new found momentum, Marietta blitzed the Comets for a 25-9 set two score. Despite being down, Capital started the third set on a five point run, highlighted by a strong block from
Simone Daniel and
Samaree Perkins. Despite the strong start, Marietta found their groove and moved past the Comets, eventually winning the set 25-15.
Alissa Holler led Capital with six kills on the night, followed by
Lindsay Rich (5) and
Audrey James (3).
Bryn Whitmer set up 17 assists and also picked up four digs and landed two aces.
Abby Brunner had a game-high 19 digs in the match.
Samaree Perkins, Holler and
Michaela Recker all added four digs as well.
Perkins also led the blocking category with three swats.

Capital will stay on the road as they head to John Carroll University for a 1 p.m. first serve on Saturday, October 21st.
