COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team was swept by the University of Mount Union on Saturday afternoon, falling in straight sets, 25-20, 25-22, 25-18.
The loss now pegs the Comets back to 6-15 overall and 0-5 in the OAC while Mount moves to 15-6 and 3-2 in conference.
Neither team attacked particularly well in the match as Mount managed just a .188 percentage compared to Capital's .026.
The highlight of the match proved to be a nine-point run, spurred on by the hot serving of
Olivia Spillers in the second set. Capital found themselves trailing 20-10 and nine straight points brought the Comets back to 20-19. Spillers landed four aces in the run. Unfortunately, that steam fizzled out as Mount claimed the set 25-22, but the comeback momentum was certainly a charge of energy the team desperately needed.
All-in-all, Capital landed 27 kills, led by
Lindsay Rich's six. She was followed by five each from
Samaree Perkins and
Alissa Holler.
Larissa Smith and
Ryann Bunyak combined for seven more.
Bryn Whitmer set up the offense with 23 assists. She added a kill, two service aces, a block and seven digs to her production.
Abby Brunner led all players with 18 digs. She was supported by
Olivia Spillers (8),
Kenadee Winters (6) and
Alissa Holler (5).
Holler and Perkins were each in on three block assists.
Larissa Smith added a solo block and two assists.
