Women’s Soccer Scores Ten in Dominant Win Over Muskingum

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team ran rampant in a 10-0 win over Muskingum University this evening. The double-digit win came on the heels of a 38-10 shot difference as well as a 22-0 edge in shots on goal.

The Comets move to 7-6-1 overall and 2-2 in the OAC.  while Muskingum drops to 2-8-3, 0-3-1.

The 10-0 win for Cap marks the first double-digit victory for the program since April 1, 2021 when they beat the same Muskingum team 14-0.

Capital jumped all over the Muskies in the first 10 minutes of action as the Comets went up 3-0 under 10 minutes into the game. The action got started in the fifth minute as Sophia Leonetti volleyed in a cross from Taylor Marcum. Just under two minutes later, Catherine Zugaro turned in a goal off a feed from Francesca Longano. The goal was Zugaro's first of the year. Longano turned provider again in the 10th minute as she sent a pass to Lexi Snider who centered the ball to Grace Estes who swept home her team-leading ninth goal of the year.

Capital added to their advantage in the 26th minute as Estes returned the favor to Snider as her centering pass was controlled by Snider and then smashed into the lower left corner of the net, making the score 4-0 in favor of the home side. Taylor Marcum also picked up her second assist of the match on the play by setting up Estes' cross.

Cap wasn't done yet as they would add a fifth just before the break as Shelby Jackson netted her first collegiate goal. Jackson took a cross from Grace Estes and played a one-two with Maggie McGlone who set up Jackson to sweep home from close range. The assist was the first of the career for McGlone as well.

Capital kept up the momentum after halftime as the team scored again in the 53rd minute. Zugaro netted her second of the game off a feed from Lizzie Elliott

Just four minutes later, Grace Estes nabbed her second of the game and 10th of the season finishing off a nice sequence from Lexi Snider and Catherine Zugaro

That seven goal lead would hold until the 73rd when the Comets would add an eighth as Mya Swearengin scored her first career goal. She took a feed from Nicole Ogden and Maggie McGlone and smashed a shot to the upper right corner of the net.

Capital got the ninth in the 79th minute as a cross from Charlotte Greenberg was collected by McGlone in front of goal. There, McGlone kept her cool and slotted home her second career goal.

The Comets weren't done yet as they tacked on a 10th goal of the game thanks to McGlone's second of the match. She collected a defensive touch from Muskingum at the top of the box and slotted a shot to the lower left corner of the net to round off the scoring at 10-0 in the 86th minute.

Sofia Walton started the game in goal, playing the first 55 minutes before making way for Lauren Hinshaw. Walton then returned to the field as a forward, taking two shots in her time up top. Neither Walton or Hinshaw was called to make a save on the night.
