COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball finally made their trip home to the Capital Center on Wednesday, playing host to Oberlin College in their first non-tournament home match of the season. The Comets were off to a hot start roaring out to an early lead in the first set and continuing on the second to take a firm hold of the match, 2-0. Cap brought a swift end to things in the third, winning the set, and the match, 3-0.
The Purple and White inch ever closer to .500 now with a 6-8 record on the season. Oberlin drops to 7-4 with the loss.
Through the entire match, Capital trailed for just two points in the first set at 2-1 and again at 22-21, but for the most part dominated the match by playing in front the whole time.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital started off hot in the first set, streaking out to an early lead. Things calmed down shortly thereafter following a timeout by Oberlin as the Yeowomen slowly worked it back to a tie game. They teams traded points from then on out until the Comets finally struck an advantage to end it, taking the first set, 25-23.
The second set was a little bit tighter. Whenever one team would streak out to a lead, the other would put together a streak in response to pull back even. About mid-set is when Capital started to turn it on breaking out to a huge lead that would not be squandered, and winning the set 25-16.
In the third, the Purple and White poured it on early, scoring seven straight points to start off the set. However, the Yeowomen bounced back strong and brought the set within two points, but the Comets answered stronger and shut OC down to finish it off, 25-20, and take the match 3-0.
