COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team dropped an in-conference doubleheader on Thursday afternoon to visiting Heidelberg University. The games went in favor of the Student Princes 12-4 and 9-3.

The pair of losses set the Comets back to 3-15 overall and 1-5 in OAC play this season.

Delivering the good moments for the Capital lineup through both games was Lexie Leggett who collected four hits – two in each game – and a combined five RBIs. Her final hit of the day came in the bottom of the fifth of game two on a solo home run to left field. It was her third homer of the season and the 10th of her Capital career.

Elsewhere in the lineup, Liz Stonerock collected three hits and Mishae Fouch collected two baseknocks of her own. The additional RBIs on the day came on a hit-by-pitch from Tiffany Zuelzke and a groundout from Krislyn Bayles.

In game one, Capital scored all four of their runs in the bottom of the fifth, while trailing 12-0. Brianna Shearer led off the inning with a walk and was followed up by a walk from Keana Walters and a single from Liz Stonerock that loaded the bases. There, Zuelzke was drilled by a pitch to score the re-entered Maddie McKinniss from third. Then, the re-entered Mishae Fouch scored on Bayles' RBI groundout to second. The scoring was punctuated by Lexie Leggett's two-RBI single to center field that scored both Zuelzke and Stonerock.

In the second game, Capital trailed 3-0 heading to the bottom of the third, and quickly closed that to 3-2. Leggett delivered the goods once more as she singled to center field, scoring Zuelzke and Stonerock. Stonerock had previously doubled and Zuelzke reached on an error and stole second before scoring.

In the bottom of the fifth, Cap tacked on their final run of the game with a solo home run off the bat of Leggett. Previously in the game, Leggett had sent two foul balls over the outfield fence, so it was satisfying to see one finally go to the right side of the foul pole.

The game one loss went to starting pitcher Krislyn Bayles who tossed 4.1 innings and conceded 10 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits and two walks. She struck out three in her outing.

The game two decision went to Brianna Shearer who allowed nine runs – only one of which was earned – over seven innings. She conceded nine hits and five free passes, but struckout four Berg hitters.
