COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University softball team was upended in consecutive games by the Ohio Northern University softball team on Saturday afternoon. The visitors took game one in nine innings by a final of 2-0 before coming back and winning game two in six innings, 9-0.
Capital (3-25, 1-15) was kept mum at the plate today as they tallied just seven hits in the two games. Leading the way in the hit categories were
Tiffany Zuelzke and
Lexie Leggett with two each.
Kelcie Schnitzler,
Krislyn Bayles, and
Liz Stonerock each garnered one base knock as well.
Game one was a pitcher's duel throughout as
Brianna Shearer squared off with Ashley Lenser of ONU, going eight full innings of shutout softball before either team would find a breakthrough. Through the nine innings, Lenser struckout eight Comets, while Shearer punched out seven Polar Bears. Ultimately, two runs in the top of the ninth gave the visitors the win in the end.
Ohio Northern found things easier at the plate in game two, collecting 11 hits, drawing two walks, and reaching courtesy of three errors. This production would yield nine runs in six innings. ONU pitcher Allie Bican held Cap to just two hits and no runs, to help her team to the win.
It was a group effort in the pitching circle as
Krislyn Bayles (2.1 innings),
Kelcie Schnitzler (0.2 innings), and Shearer (3.0 innings) would combine to throw in the game. The allowed nine runs, only five of which were earned.

Capital will be back on the ball field with a newly scheduled doubleheader on Wednesday, April 27th at Clowson Field against Miami-Hamilton. This doubleheader comes on the heels of Capital canceling their added twin bill with Manchester for Monday due to a poor weather forecast.
