CLERMONT, Fla. – After a lengthy weather delay for the second time this week, the Capital University softball team suffered an 11-0 loss in five innings to Arcadia on Saturday evening.
Things got away from the Comets (1-5) early on as they were sat down 1-2-3 in the top half of the first and surrendered five runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Knights showed early patience at the plate to load them up, and then began to swing the bat well to score the runs.
Another quick inning for Capital offensively in the second led to another four runs in the bottom half for Arcadia, opening the game up.
As the offense continued to stay mute, Capital got out unscathed in the third as a sharp defensive play worked in their favor. With a runner on first, Arcadia called for a sac bunt where
Kelcie Schnitzler fielded it and threw to
Hannah St. Clair at first. St. Clair then alertly threw to left fielder
Krislyn Bayles who was covering third on the play and got the runner out.
Unfortunately, despite the improved defense, Capital succumbed in the top of the fifth and lost via the 11-0 run-rule.
