Men’s Basketball Triumphs in the Battle of the Comets

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's basketball team opened up their home schedule with a gritty 79-72 win over the visiting Olivet College on Saturday afternoon. The win allowed Capital to claim the second meeting of the Comets for the second straight year as CU knocked off the Olivet Comets last season 88-80 in Michigan.

Capital moves to 2-0 on the year, while Olivet slips back to 1-2 overall.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital started a bit slow, but with the score at 7-7, they garnered a lead that they would hold for mot of the remainder of the game. Immediate scores from Carter Combs and Ryan Suever lifted Cap on their way. Eventually, some cushion was established as a 3-pointer by Joe Thompson was followed by a jumper from Kaleb Crawford in the paint.

A Ryan Bart three cut the lead to just one point with 11:31 left in the first half, but a strong run of offense helped Capital build out a 13-point lead over the next five minutes. Thompson, Ryan Roth, Justin Nixon, Combs, and Crawford all got in on the scoring during the hot run of form.

From that lead at 39-26, Olivet scratched away at Capital's lead and even got a 58-55 lead for a little over a minute of the second half.

Despite falling behind for a brief period of time, Capital got things right and eventually went back ahead by double-digits as Griffin Doseck cleaned up his own miss and put CU ahead 73-63 with just over two minutes remaining.

From there, Capital held on and sealed the win 79-72 in the end.
