NASHPORT, Ohio / WEST LAFAYETTE, Ohio – The Capital University men's and women's golf teams took to the links this past weekend, competing in their respective events – the women at the OAC Preview and the men at the NCAA Region V Preview.
MEN
The Comet men finished the Regional Preview in a three-way tie for fifth out of 15 teams in a very competitive field of competition. The field was won by Otterbein with a score of 627 over the two rounds. Capital put together a 36-hole score of 656 – even with Penn State Altoona and North Park. The rest of the top-five teams were Wooster in second, Trine in third, and John Carroll in fourth.
Individually,
Ricky Walsh paced the Comets with a T-21st finish, shooting a score of 79-83-162. Just one stroke back,
Angelo Donato shot 81-82-163. He placed in a tie for 27th.
The other three came in a bunch as
Jack Curtis placed T-37th with a scorecard reading 86-80-166.
Andrew Simpson (82-87) and
Colin Frimel (85-84) finished tied for 42nd with matching scores of 169.
WOMEN
The women competed on Saturday and Sunday for the OAC Preview at River Greens Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ohio.
Hannah Frey paced the team with a two-round score of 182 (90-92). She placed in a tie for 17th.
Avery Fish was next for Capital with a 99-105-204. She placed in a tie for 34th.
Abby Crisler was tied for 38th with a 115 round one score and an immense 20-stroke improvement on day two for a 95. Her combined score was 210.
Reagan Johnson rounded out the two-day scorers with a 117-108-225.
Mariah Cotsamire played on day one and carded a solid 96, but an injury pulled her out of day two's competition.
The women's preview was won by Otterbein – who featured the number one through four individual placements.
UP NEXT
The Capital men will return to the course this coming weekend as they take part in the men's OAC Preview on Saturday, October 8th and Sunday, October 9th. The women return to action on Monday, October 22nd in the Otterbein Match Play as part of the first of two-segments to determine the winner of the Oar Trophy.
