TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team made their way up to the Campus of Heidelberg University on Wednesday for a late season affair with the Student Princes. Unfortunately, things did not go the Comets' way, dropping the match in four sets, 1-3 (11-25, 25-21, 20-25, 10-25).
The Purple and White fall to 8-17 on the season and 0-7 within the conference.
Heidelberg also moves to 8-17 overall with a 3-5 OAC mark.
The Comets struggled to get things going in the first set, losing 11-25, but rebounded strongly in the second set with a 25-21 win. The tide seemed to be turning Capital's way in the third set as the Comets held an early lead but the Student Princes rallied to take the set 25-20. Things did not bounce Cap's way in the fourth set as the Purple and White struggled to put points on the board and dropped the set 10-25 and the game, 1-3.
THE NUMBERS
Capital accounted for 38 kills on the night.
Alissa Holler set a new season-high, leading the team with 14.
Lindsay Rich and
Caleigh Hamby both connected on six kills.
Serving-wise, the Comets recorded four aces at the responsibility of
Abby Brunner – who had a game-high three – and Rich.
The Purple and White got two blocks on the night.
Larissa Smith led with two to herself and was joined by Holler (1) and
Ryann Bunyak (1).
Reagan Willoughby led the Comets to 37 total team assists with 19 individual set-ups. She was joined on the leaderboard by
Jordyn Hoffman (12) and
Abby Brunner (4).
Capital got 57 digs on the night. Brunner led the dig department again with 22 total.
Paree Furness scooped up eleven and Willoughby accounted for seven.
