CEDARVILLE, Ohio -- On Friday afternoon, the Capital University men's and women's cross country programs competed at the annual All-Ohio Championships.
The races for both the men (8K meters) and the women (6K meters) marked the first time either team has run a full length cross country race since the fall of 2020. The team's first meet at the Polar Bear Invitational was a shortened course.
The men's team was slotted in the Championship race and was led by sophomores Donovan Slattery and Sam Siedel paced the team's finish. For both Slattery and Siedel, the race was the first 8,000 meter run in their collegiate careers. Slattery crossed the line first for Capital in 138th place with a time of 28:51.9. Siedel was not far behind, finishing with a time of 31:03.5, good for a finish of 191st.
Aidan Cunningham, another Capital sophomore, making his collegiate debut crossed the line in 224th with a time of 38:12.6. Zach Brown, the lone junior running for Capital, rounded out the placing for the men. He crossed in 233rd place with a time of 43:10.7.
On the women's side, the team competed in the open race. Competing on the heels of some interrupted training, the squad only ran three runners --
Elizabeth Mak,
Heather Fryman and
Grace Lockard. All three of them finished within three minutes of each other.
Mak placed 131st in a time of 33:46.3, while Fryman crossed in 133rd with a time of 34:13.3. Lockard rounded out the finishers with a mark of 35:59.1, good for 137th.
Both squads will return to the course in just one week at the Findlay Invitational on September 24th.
