COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday evening, the Capital University women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against cross-town foes, Ohio Wesleyan University.
With the result, Capital now holds a 0-4-1 record, while OWU slips to a 3-1-1 mark on the season.
Capital held the upper hand all evening long dominating the possession game with 65% of the ball during the game. With that possession, Capital thrust 26 shot attempts toward the OWU goal, trying everything to find a breakthrough.
Forward
Avery Hart led all players with nine shots, including one with just 23 seconds left in the second overtime period. Unfortunately for Cap, the effort skipped off the turf and agonizingly wide of the goal. Also contributing heavily in the offensive pressure were
Cassidy Ryan and
Mia Gambaccini who each tallied three shots.
Despite not scoring a goal, the Capital defensive unit held strong all night. Goalkeeper
Lauren White stopped four shots, while defenders
Haley Moore,
Abby English, Ryan, Gambaccini, and
Casey King all contributed well to the team's first clean sheet of the year.
On the other side of the ball, the Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper, Taylor Floyd, stopped a game-high 10 shots that found the target. The Battling Bishops were led in shots by forward Makayla Watkins. She took four shots, three of which were on target.
The Purple and White head to Hanover, Indiana next and will take on the Panthers of Hanover College on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
