Women’s Soccer Drops Another Close One Against MSJ

COLUMBUS, Ohio  –  The Capital University women's soccer team took the field for their second game in as many days on Saturday night, taking on Mount Saint Joseph University.

In a tough-fought match, defense was key for both teams. Despite many chances, neither team was able to pull ahead in the first half.  The second half looked to be going Capital's way with many scoring opportunities arising on the fast break. The team took a total of 12 shots in the period, but none were able to find the back of the net. The closest opportunity came when junior Avery Hart slammed a ball off the woodwork, inches away from giving the Purple and White the lead, but ultimately resulting in a goal kick.

The tie was finally broken in the 76th minute when MSJ's Ella Pittman hit a free kick from more than 30 yards out that wound up bouncing its way through the box, off the left post, and into the goal.

Despite an intense effort from the Capital offensive to draw even, the score would stay at 1-0 until the final whistle.

Capital totaled 14 total shots in the game, seven of which originated from Avery Hart.

The Capital women look to end their four game skid on Wednesday, as they take on Ohio Wesleyan at Bernlohr Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
