WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University Women's Soccer team returned to form after shutting out Wilmington College in a 2-0 victory at Williams Stadium on Thursday night. Capital bounced back from Monday loss by acquiring its sixth shutout victory of the season.

The Crusaders (6-1-0) held the advantage on the offensive end by taking 10 shots over the course of the first half and eventually the pressure paid off. In the 32nd minute of the contest, sophomore Madeline Woodruff demonstrated her continued strong play with her sixth goal of the season. Capital advanced the ball forward but had its initial charge disrupted by the Wilmington defense. Capital was awarded a throw-in where Woodruff played the ball off to Mia Gambaccini, who then played it back into Woodruff. With the defense giving space, Woodruff turned and fired a well-placed shot into the far corner of the cage to give Cap 1-0 lead.

The match went into the half with that score and it remained that way until the 72nd minute when a turnover deep in the Wilmington defensive zone led to Capital's second goal. The Crusaders played the ball forward but the Quakers had a prime opportunity to seize the loose ball. Wilmington keeper Lauren Galloway came off the line to join in acquiring the loose ball, but sophomore Avery Hart enter the fray and wedged herself between the two Wilmington players to jar the ball free. She finished with a one-on-none opportunity, sending the ball in for a 2-0 advantage.

Wilmington was unable to generate any sort of offense following the goals and an exchange of yellow cards shortly after the goal was scored. The Capital defense and senior keeper Kelly Bachmann kept the Fightin' Quakers off of the board for the duration. Bachmann finished the evening with six saves in a full 90 played.

Each of Capital's wins this season have come via shutout with only one disruption coming in that span of seven games. Capital will look to earn its seventh win of the season on Sunday, April 11, when the Crusaders host rival Otterbein University at Bernlohr Stadium. Kickoff for the regular season finale is set for 2 p.m.
