COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Baseball had another tough outing at Clowson Field on Saturday, April 3, after taking two losses against Heidelberg University. Cap dropped its overall record to 2-13 following losses of 17-3 and 11-1.

Capital had pressure applied early as Heidelberg posted eight runs in the first three innings, five coming in the third. CU starter
Scott Gutstein (L, 0-3) surrendered nine runs, five earned, behind 11 hits over 4.2 innings pitched before being lifted for
Connor McCloy to took Cap the rest of the way.
A three-run home run by Tyler Smith accounted for Berg's second-inning run production while two Capital errors in the third helped aid a five-run third inning.
Connor Feeney and
Ethan Neal both had run-scoring hits in the bottom of the third to make the score 8-3, but those were the last times Cap would cross the plate for the duration of the game.
Heidelberg would score nine more times before the close of the seventh inning, which included a three-run home run by Cayden Rollins and run-scoring doubles by Zach Doran and Smith.
GAME 2 | L, 11-1 (F/7)

Curtis Clark earned the start in his first appearance of the year for Cap and had a 1-2-3 first inning. From there, Heidelberg got back on track and plated two in the second behind a Johnny Medvec double. In the third, Medvec came back and helped power a six-run inning with a three-run homer to deep centerfield, building Berg's lead to 8-0. Medvec later added another run-scoring base hit to build Heidelberg's lead to 10. Medvec finished 3-for-4 at the plate with six runs batted in.
Cap's lone run in game two came when
Ben Stevens hit a pinch-hit triple to right-center field, scoring Feeney from first.
While Clark (L, 0-1) took the loss, the Capital bullpen did serviceable work, limiting Heidelberg to just three runs over the last four innings.
Bryant Caporale,
Garrett Montgomery and
Brennon Newell combined to give up four hits and struck out three over that span of time.
Cap will prepare for a second round of play with Marietta beginning on Saturday, April 10. Saturday's action will take place in Marietta while the final two games will be played at Clowson Field. Both days are set for doubleheaders to begin at 1 p.m.
