TIFFIN, Ohio – Capital Baseball took a pair of losses against Heidelberg University at Pleasant Valley on Friday afternoon. Cap was beaten 10-0 (F/7) in game one then battled to the bitter end as part of a 15-14 loss to end its stay.

Capital mustered just five hits in game one of Friday doubleheader and only had two runners reach scoring position. Heidelberg's Ross Thompson turned down the Crusaders in order three times and struck out eight in his 7.0 innings of work.
Tucker Craft started on the hill for Capital and went 4.0 innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits while striking out four. The remaining four runs were credited to
Bryant Caporale in his 2.0 innings of relief.
Heidelberg posted four runs in the second inning, all unearned, and two in the third. After plating four more in the fifth inning, the Student Princes built up a 10-0 lead that carried them to an early victory.

Both sides traded heavy blows in game two starting with Capital, which put five on the board in the third inning, bolstered by a grand slam by
CJ Rockwell. Heidelberg responded with nine runs in the bottom of inning, seven of those credited to Capital starter
Dalton Anker. Heidelberg benefitted from a Capital error that helped extend the inning and allow three more runs to score.
Capital cut into that lead when
Logan White drove two runs home with a two-RBI single, but again, Heidelberg scored to make for a 10-7 game heading into the fifth. After the Student Princes scored twice more, Cap's offense erupted again in the eighth. With a five-run inning behind six hits, the lead was Capital's once again, 13-12.
CJ Rockwell hit a second grand slam to fuel the inning.
In what turned to be par for the course, Heidelberg made its move in its next at-bat, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to reclaim a 15-13 lead. Capital was able to get within one run after using a sac fly to make the score 15-14. Rockwell had one more opportunity to make another major impact on the result but struck out to end the game.
Rockwell finished with eight RBIs and went 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Connor Feeney (3), Garrot Kennedy (3) and
Cole Callaghan (4) all had three or more hits in the contest.
Capital will host Heidelberg at Clowson Field on the return trip of this weekend set. First pitch of Saturday's doubleheader will take place at 1 p.m.
