WESTERVILLE, Ohio –  In four games this weekend, the Capital University baseball team defeated Otterbein University once and dropped three to move their season record to 4-18.

In game one yesterday at Clowson Field, Capital knocked off Otterbein 2-1. The Crusaders got on the board early in the bottom of the second inning.  Chase Clouser led off the inning with a single and stole second. There, Logan White singled to score Clouser. Later in the inning, Connor Feeney scored an unearned run on an RBI single from Brendan Stinson. The two-run inning proved to be enough in the long run as the Crusader pitching held strong. A lead-off home run in the fifth inning would be the lone score for the visitors in the game.

In all Tucker Craft went the distance in an outstanding start. He lasted all nine innings and conceded just five hits, one run, and struck out four.

Chandler Hoffmann started for the Cardinals and had a nice outing himself, throwing eight innings and allowing just four hits and two runs (one earned).

In game two yesterday, the Cardinals got back their swagger and scored 16 runs on 16 hits benefiting from three Crusader errors. Otterbein took the game by a final of 16-5. Brennan Newel was hit with the loss as the starting pitcher giving up three hits, three HBPs and six runs.

In all, five Crusaders collected RBI hits in the game. Ryan Henne, Brendan Stinson, Jacob Fox, Brandon Barnette, and Ethan Neal all accounted for scoring hits.

Moving ahead to Sunday's games in Westerville, Otterbein captured game one via a 14-4 scoreline and narrowly edged the Crusaders 9-8 in game two.

Scott Gutstein was strapped with the game one loss as he conceded nine hits, nine runs, and three walks. Gutstein did strike out three in his outing. Ryan Henne and Logan White were both responsible for two RBIs each in the Crusader offense. White got the scoring going with a two-run homer to left in the first, and Henne scattered his two RBIs with a single in the third and a sac fly in the fifth.

Rounding out the weekend series, Otterbein held off a late surge from Capital to take the decision 9-8. Logan White was once again hot at the plate as he collected four RBIs which included a three-run home run in the top of the first inning. White then singled home Aiden Kinser in the eighth inning. Ryan Henne, and Dakota DeStefano accounted for the other Crusader RBIs in the game.

Trailing 8-4 in the eighth inning, Capital rallied for four runs to tie things at 8-8. Henne reached on an error, scoring Cole Callaghan. White then singled to score Kisner before DeStefano doubled to score both Henne and White.

In the eighth, Otterbein scored the winning run on a sac fly.

Curtis Clark started for Capital and pitched well, but was hit nine times and conceded seven runs. Spencer Knight was strapped with the loss in relief as he was responsible for the eighth inning run.

Capital will look to break out of it's rut next weekend with four games against Mount Union. The doubleheader on Saturday will be at Clowson field and will commence at 1 p.m.
