COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Softball earned a win in one of its two games at Clowson Field on Saturday afternoon. Capital rebounded from a 6-1 loss in game one to roll early enough to hold on to a 5-3 victory in doubleheader's nightcap.
GAME 1Â |Â L, 6-1
box score
Marietta's Maddi Liston went the distance in game one and held Cap to just four hits over seven inning of work while striking out three.
Erica Ogden accounted for two of those hits, though it was
Tiffany Zuelzke's run-scoring double in the third that made noise for Cap.
Zuelzke's RBI double tied the game, 1-1, in the bottom of the third, but Marietta promptly replied with a three-run fourth against
Lexi Anderson (L, 0-1), who entered the inning in the circle in relief of
Brianna Shearer. After a hit batter and two walks, Cap re-entered Sheared to take over but a pair of hits helped bring three runs around to score.
The Pioneers added two more runs against Katelynn Wilhelm in her second inning of relief. Jess Brown put the game out of reach with a two-run double to lead to a 6-1 advantage, a score that held to the end.

GAME 2Â |Â W, 5-3
box score
Marietta began the scoring in game two, taking advantage of a leadoff walk that later came around to score via an RBI triple from the very next batter.
After Marietta got its opening batter out, the next four Crusaders reached base safely, starting with
Lauren Kachure who drew a walk. Run-scoring hits by
Erica Ogden and
Alyx Slusher gave Cap an early lead, 2-1, but there were not quite done.
In the bottom of the third the same part of the order did even more damage. Ogden led the inning off with a double and later came around to score on Slusher's RBI single. The carousel continued following Lexi Legget's run-scoring single, then two batters later Alyssa Durbin plated a run after driving a single, as well.
Those five runs were all that was needed to carry Capital to victory.
Krislyn Bayles earned her first collegiate win in the circle after throwing six innings in which she allowed just three runs, two earned, on five hits. Katelynn Wilhelm closed up the game and earned her second save behind a scoreless seventh.
Marietta (8-10) and Capital (4-12) will meet again on Marietta Field for a doubleheader on Sunday, April 11. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
