COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital University Women's Soccer had a whale of a day in its 14-0 romp of Muskingum University at Bernlohr Stadium on Thursday night. The offensive output broke a 15-plus year program record for points in a single game, while also adding another 90 minutes to the total of minutes played without scoring a goal this season.
From the start Capital proved to be the dominant team scoring its first of 14 goals in the fourth minute when
Madeline Woodruff went in unassisted. While Capital did not score again for nearly 30 minutes, the shot barrage continued. It finally paid off when
Holly Barlage notched her second of the year in the 35th minute and then three minutes later,
Gabby Huster added Capital's third.
Capital took a 4-0 lead into the half and held a 31-2 shot advantage at the break. Though their shot count was half that of the first 90, its goal count exploded. Of the team's 15 shot attempts in the second half, 10 of them found the back of the net.
Woodruff completed her hat trick just before the turn of the 51st minute and less than a minute later, freshman
Lexi Snider began her quest for a three-goal night. Capital scored five goals in a 10-minute span, two by Snider, to extend its lead to 9-0 before the 60-minute mark. Snider completed her hat trick with a goal in the 85th minute.
Leading up to Cap's second hatty of the night, three other Crusaders notched their second goals including
Casey King, Mia Gambacinni and
Holly Barlage.
Capital's 14 goals and four assists account for a total of 32 points, which broke a long-standing school record set by the 1996 team for most points in a single game. According to records, in that season the Crusaders tallied 31 in a single game.
Woodruff and Snider both finished the night with three goals and two assists.
On the other end,
Lauren White was not challenged with a shot on goal leading to another clean sheet for the Capital defense. Muskingum posted a total of four shot attempts, two in each half. Capital, now 5-0-0, has pitched five consecutive shutouts to begin the 2021 season, spanning now 450 minutes. They have outscored their competition 27-0 to this point.
Capital will head to Ohio Northern for its next game on Saturday, April 3 where they will meet the Polar Bears in Ada for a 2 p.m. kickoff.
