COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital men's golf team turned in a superb 18 hole score of 292 (+4) to set a school record and tie for the lead with Otterbein on the Royal American Links. To determine a winner, the players at each position in the lineup were compared and it came down to the fifth and final score in the lineup, giving Otterbein the tiebreaking win.

"I am so proud of how the guys played today, shooting a school record and of Andrew Simpson with the 69 that was huge for us. It's great to see the depth and maturity of the young team coming together early in the season," said head coach Andy Garcia.

Andrew Simpson posted a three under 69 to place second overall and pace the Crusaders lineup. The transfer from Columbus State rolled in five birdies on the day, making the turn at one under. To start the back, he bookended a bogey with two birdies and added another on the 14th hole for good measure to card his score of three under.

Angelo Donato and Shane Murphy each turned in two over 74s to share seventh place. Donato began his day with a bogey but was able to steady the ship and card 11 pars alongside three birdies to finish in the top 10 for the third time this season. Murphy ran into some trouble on the second hole but with two birdies and a slew of pars, tied for the second best score of the Crusader squad.

Colin Frimel came in just behind his teammates, finishing ninth at three over par. Frimel was even through 13 holes before he hit some bumps on the way into the clubhouse to post his respectable 75.

Ben Satterthwaite was the fifth man, carding 86 (+14) to finish 42nd.

Capital also trotted out the rest of their team as individuals, led by Adam Czerniakowski who placed 13th at five over par. Jack Shoemaker and Jack Curtis each took a share of 16th at seven over. Vince Daher finished 29th and Tomasz Douangsy 45th.
