COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital softball (4-4) came away on the wrong side of two games with the John Carroll Blue Streaks (4-6) on Sunday, coming away with one win for the four-game weekend series. In game one, the Crusaders were just edged 2-1 before game two where they let the game get away from them later in the afternoon to fall 10-2.

GAME 1 | L, 2-1
  • Both starters began the day pitching well, with Katelyn Wilhelm getting through the first two innings unscathed.
  • In the top of the third, the Capital offense was able to string together a Tiffany Zuelzke walk, Lauren Kachure single and Erica Ogden single to drive a run home and take the 1-0 lead.
  • In the bottom of the inning, John Carroll managed to push a run across but Wilhelm continued to find ways out of jams and kept the game knotted up at 1-1 through five innings.
  • The Blue Streaks put a runner on first in the sixth inning who was driven home with a double for what would become the deciding run.
  • Capital would go quietly in the seventh inning, bringing the final to 2-1, John Carroll.

GAME 2 | L, 10-2
  • In the later game, the Blue Streaks offense came alive with a two run home run in the second inning and an RBI single in the third to take a 3-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fourth, Ogden singled to center field. Lexie Leggett came up to bat next and after digging in, rocketed a ball over the left field fence to cut the deficit to one.
  • Unfortunately, in the bottom of the inning John Carroll kept moving the line and scored seven runs to push their lead to 10-2.
  • The Crusaders did their best to mount a comeback in the fifth inning, loading the bases with two singles and a walk but were unable to score any runs, resulting in a five inning final.

THE SCOREBOOK
  • Leggett collected two hits for the day, adding two runs batted in and scoring a run to lead the team.
  • Ogden also scattered two hits, scored once and drove in the other run for Capital.
