BEVERLY, Ohio – Capital University Men's Golf opened its season at the Pioneer Classic, hosted by Marietta College at Lakeside Golf Course (Beverly, Ohio) on Saturday, March 20. Cap finished second out of four teams and was paced by sophomore
Angelo Donato's third-place finish.
Out of the 37 competitors that clubbed up at Lakeside Golf Course, two Crusaders placed inside the top-10 and a third in the top-15.
Angelo Donato (Mayfield, Ohio/Mayfield) led Capital with a 73, 3-over par performance on the 6,308-yard course. Donato finished four strokes back from tournament winner Gage Herb of Marietta and three off the pace of second-place finisher Preston Yeater of Muskingum.
Sophomore
Colin Frimel (Katy, Texas/Thompkins) finished three shot back of his teammate and in a share of seventh place. He finished the one-round event with a 76, 6-over par. Sophomore
Shane Murphy placed tied for 15th with a score of 78, 8-over par.
Also feeding into Capital's team score was
Vince Daher (79, +9). Freshman
Andrew Simpson rounded out Cap's team card, finishing tied for 28th with an 11-over, 81 in his first collegiate action.
Cap will return to the links on Monday, March 22 to compete in the Muskingum Invitational at the Zanesville Country Club.
