COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital Football made the trip to Tiffin and fell in game two of the shortened season to Heidelberg, 66-13. The Purple and White scored once in the second and third quarter to post their two touchdowns of the evening.

THE FACTS
  • The game opened with a Heidelberg drive that brought them down to the one yard line. Lining up fourth and one at the one yard line, the Student Princes decided to run the ball up the gun and were stuffed by Matt Lauofo who made the tackle and gave Capital the ball.
  • Capital punted on their first drive, leading to Heidelberg's first score of the game at 8:22 in the first.
  • Down 14-0, the Crusaders began their drive with 5:19 on the first quarter clock and started to march down the field. Small gains moved the ball all the way down to the opponent's seven yard line by the end of the quarter. On the first play of the next quarter, Ben Everson connected with Michael Smith for seven yards to put Capital on the board with a touchdown.
  • As the half progressed, the Crusaders defense was unable to hold down the opposing offense and resulted in a 34-6 deficit by halftime.
  • Capital received the second half kickoff and immediately set to work to cut into the deficit, moving the ball with efficiency. Two passes from Luke McCarrell to Kameron Lee accounted for 53 yards and moved the Purple and White into the red zone. One play later the duo put Capital's second touchdown on the board with a 12 yard completion at 12:38 in the third quarter.
  • The Crusader offense sputtered on their subsequent drives, putting the defense on the field for extended periods of time, resulting in points for Heidelberg.
  • By the close of the third quarter, the Student Princes had built a large lead that they would hold to the final horn.

KEY STATS
  • McCarrell led the Crusaders passing attack with 106 yards through the air with seven completions across 12 attempts.
